Inga-Karin Eriksson (born 1956) is a well-known
figure in the philatelic world, having designed dozens and dozens of stamps,
quite a few of which have ranked high in popularity polls over the years.
Eriksson formed part of a group of very talented graphic
artists who joined the School of Engraving at the Royal University College of
Fine Arts in 1979. Many of those ended up creating stamps, for example the designer
Göran Österlund and the engraver Lars Sjööblom. In 1982, their final project
was to design the Swedish Europa stamps for that year. Although Eriksson did
not win, she was offered the opportunity to engrave one of the two values, a
design by aforementioned Göran Österlund.
It would be her only stamp engraving though. She
said that illustration and design was more fun and offered more variety than
engraving. And so she embarked on a successful career in which she designed
stamps and banknotes, illustrated books and even designed the philatelic
theatre poster for the Swedish musical by Abba’s Benny and Björn, Kristina från Duvemåla.
