William Fraser Ford was
born around 1895 and at the age of seventeen joined the American Bank Note
Company (ABNC), where his father also worked. He was also an engraver, and
employed by the ABNC as a ‘security tester’, which earned him the nickname of
honest counterfeiter.
William himself was really Robert Savage’s successor,
even finishing a die of Savage’s, a portrait of Chiang Kai-shek, after his
death. Ford became well-known
for his magnificent portrait engravings, and was even sometimes considered the
world’s best.
William Fraser Ford passed
away on 3 November 1962.
