Pierre attended the Ecole Estienne, after a
bachelor's degree in applied arts. He was only twenty years old when he was
already spotted by La Poste, where he is now one of only two engravers in
actual employ. He was and remains, without a doubt, one of the youngest
engravers in France, and even in the world. His passion for stamps stemmed from
the faraway travels of his family: they always brought him back some stamps.
Bara said that it could sometimes be hard to be proud
of a finished stamp. Being so obsessed with the small details, it can be quite
surprising to see what does and does not print well in the latter stages of the
production of stamps.
Despite the obvious pressures on stamp production, Pierre
sees his art survive somehow in the future: He once said: “It is the great
unknown, I think it will become a luxury product, but it will not disappear. It's
like vinyl, sales went downhill for quite a while, and yet it made a successful
comeback. It will be the same for stamps. They have an added interest, the
story they tell, it’s like an added value.
