INFORMATION
Several dies were used for the 1932 New Zealand Health Stamp. The first die was retouched after the initial printings, but subsequently a second plate was made which was more deeply cut to give clearer impressions.
The artist of the 1933 New Zealand health stamp design had intended to depict a sun rise piercing through fleecy clouds. But the engraver, Mr Peat, shortened the sun's rays considerably and made the clouds more prominent, so the end result looked more like a sun set, which gave the whole design a rather desolate feel.
