BIOGRAPHY: Douglas Stewart Ronaldson

Douglas Stewart Ronaldson was born in England on 10 October 1825. In 1840, he moved to the United States and some fifteen years later we find him as an established engraver. In the 1860s, he joined the ABNC where he worked until 1868. Ronaldson subsequently joined the National Bank Note Co.

In 1879, the company was acquired by the ABNC, so Ronaldson was back again working for his former bosses. He would become one of the major frame and lettering engravers of his time. His final work for the ABNC would be the 1893 Columbian issue for the United States.

The following year, 1894, Ronaldson would leave the ABNC and start working for the BEP. There he remained until his death in New York in 1902.

  1. His first name was indeed Douglas, so you might wish to revise the references in this article to "Donald." i.e. title and final sentence. Do you have a picture of him?
