DATABASE: Chris Matthews

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

For the 1988 British Castles high value definitive set, Chris Matthews separately engraved two versions of the Queen's profile, one left and one right facing. These engravings were based on the Machin diadem head.

The 1992 Castles stamps, which no longer had the engraved profile head, were re-engraved versions (by Matthews) of the 1988 set. The subsequent versions issued from August 1994 onwards were not re-engraved but re-etched by computer.
